Opening and Greetings
The event began with warm and cordial greetings to all attendees. The President of the club, Mr. Amit Bhatt welcomed everyone and acknowledged the presence of distinguished guests. He highlighted the significance of the gathering, emphasizing the importance of celebrating cultural traditions and promoting financial literacy among seniors. He expressed gratitude to the organizers, volunteers, and participants for making the event possible.

Financial literacy seminar speaker
The event was attended by enthusiastic golden agers and non-seniors who actively participated in the Navratri program. The energy and engagement in the Garba dance and other cultural activities contributed greatly to the festive atmosphere.
Special Guests
The President of the club extended a special welcome to Regional Councillor Mr. Paul Vicente (Wards 1 and 5), acknowledging his presence as the Guest of Honour. The Councillor was thanked for taking the time to attend and for his continued support of the community. He stayed for some time to enjoy the seniors’ and non- seniors’ performances.
Financial Literacy Seminar
The Director of the club welcomed the speaker and invited Mr. Francisco Correia to the stage. The Director introduced Mr. Correia and shared a brief biography. Mr. Correia is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Canada, with over forty years of experience in financial literacy and finance in Canada.
CPA Canada works to address the growing social issue of financial literacy in the country. Mr. Correia covered topics such as budgeting, saving, retirement planning, investing, and financial planning.
The mission of CPA Canada is to deliver unbiased financial literacy education that empowers Canadians to improve their financial well-being.
The goal of the session was to help individuals take control of their financial future, understand financial risks and opportunities, and develop long-term financial strategies. Mr. Correia delivered his presentation gradually, building up to key points with clear illustrations and explanations. He specifically focused on managing finances during retirement.
The Program Coordinator translated the presentation into Hindi, as the speaker presented in English. Seniors actively asked questions throughout the presentation, and the speaker willingly answered them during the session. The presentation included many slides with detailed explanations, along with additional informational resources and promotional materials for seniors.
After the presentation concluded, Mr. Correia thanked all participants for their valuable contributions. Attendees were encouraged to ask further questions and share their thoughts, fostering interaction and engagement. The Director of the Southlake Seniors Club distributed CPA resources to all seniors with the help of two volunteers.
The audience applauded enthusiastically, showing their appreciation for the valuable information and insights shared. Some attendees requested the speaker’s email address to follow up with individual concerns and questions.
Cultural Performances and Lunch
Following the presentation and interaction, the President, Mr. Amit Bhatt announced the next performance: a Garba dance by ladies. More than twenty ladies participated, entering one by one and dancing to Gujarati worship songs. All participants wore colorful Lehenga Choli or Chaniya Choli with beautiful embroidery, along with flowers in their hair buns.
The Chaniya Choli is a traditional three-piece Gujarati outfit consisting of an embroidered blouse (choli), a flared skirt (chaniya), and a dupatta worn in the traditional style. All the ladies looked stunning and delivered amazing performances. While the Garba performance was ongoing, lunch was served around 3:30 PM. Attendees enjoyed a variety of refreshments and traditional dishes, providing an opportunity to socialize and relax before the cultural festivities continued. While some seniors stood in the food line, others continued participating in the Garba dance.
Conclusion / Remarks
The President of the Southlake Seniors Club, Mr. Amit Bhatt concluded the event by expressing heartfelt thanks to all attendees, volunteers, speakers, organizers, and special guests, including the City Councillor. The event was successfully wrapped up with appreciation and positive feedback from all participants.
