BMC: Ms. Asyia presented on Fall Prevention
Lifeline Representative: Discussed Emergency Response Devices and Fall Detection
The event was specially organized for golden agers to promote social connection and well- being. Enthusiastic seniors actively participated in the awareness program. Their energy and engagement made the sessions lively and enjoyable, including Hindi songs sung by one of the club members and volunteers. Two outstanding performances by seniors captivated the audience.
The director of the club warmly welcomed the speaker, Ms. Asyia from BMC, and invited her to the stage. Ms. Asyia set up her materials and began her presentation by asking a few introductory questions about fall prevention. She built up to the main points gradually, explaining them with clear illustrations.
Ms. Asyia emphasized that falls are one of the leading causes of injury in older adults and can result in pain, reduced mobility, loss of independence, hospitalization, or even death. She explained that a fall prevention program for seniors takes a comprehensive approach, combining regular exercise, home safety assessments, and proper health management to reduce the risk of falls and promote overall well-being.
She reassured attendees that falls are not an inevitable part of aging. With awareness, prevention strategies, and proper precautions, seniors can significantly reduce their risk and remain safe and independent. Programs like HomeSafe with Fall Detection help seniors maintain independence safely. Its proven automatic fall detection technology accurately identifies true falls with a low rate of false alarms, ensuring quick access to help.
Attendees actively participated by asking questions and sharing their thoughts, fostering meaningful interaction and engagement. During the presentation, ice cream was provided by a club member to celebrate their wedding anniversary, which all seniors enjoyed.
The second speaker, Mr. Stephen Vincer from Lifeline, was invited by the club director. All resources and surveys were distributed with the help of volunteers Ann Rattra and Enosh Rattra, along with additional assistants from Ms. Asyia’s team. Ann and Enosh helped arrange
the stage, welcomed seniors, assisted in setting up the event, and collected audience feedback. Mr. Vincer discussed various devices suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, explaining their features, benefits, and prices. The presentation was delivered in English, with Hindi translation
provided by the program coordinator to ensure full understanding. He described how the devices function in situations where a senior might fall or live alone, emphasizing that they are directly connected to emergency services and can automatically initiate a 911 call for immediate assistance. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, showing appreciation for the valuable information shared.
Cultural Celebration and Lunch
Following the presentations, Mr. Amit Bhatti announced the Diwali celebration. The performer’s attire was beautifully illuminated, and she held electric candles in both hands while wishing the audience a Happy Diwali.
During the Garba performance, lunch was served around 3:30 PM. Attendees enjoyed a variety of refreshments and traditional dishes, providing an opportunity to socialize and relax before the cultural festivities resumed. Seniors appreciated the diverse offerings; some waited in line for food while others continued to participate in the Garba dance.
Conclusion
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Amit Bhatt expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, volunteers, speakers, organizers, and special guests, including the city councillor’s representative. The event concluded successfully, thanks to the collective efforts and dedication of club members and volunteers.
